We are getting close to a wrap with the 2020 Session of the Indiana General Assembly. It has been suggested by March 11th we should see a Sine Die (meaning an adjournment without a fixed date for return set).

So what has been happening during this session? Remember it's what they call a short session. We have seen more bills proposed than I can remember (nearly 2000) in a short session meaning many of them did not see the light of day.

So what has happened in the Public Safety arena, Fire & EMS is very much alive, some for the good and some not so good. We have seen bills such as HB 1043 offering a Volunteer Pension plan being offered and we have seen bills such as HB 1372 "Insurance Matters" attempt to take away a significant percentage of our EMS transport billing where a very large gathering of providers appeared to testify against it and hopefully has now been corrected with a request for a Summer Study on the topic.

As we work toward the end of session we are coming upon the challenge of conference committees where we will need to be very attentive and vigil as parts and pieces of bills that might have passed one chamber but not both may be attempted to be added to other "like" bills.

I urge all of you to continue to monitor, watch, and read the bills that are still alive and advise of any concerns both positive or negative and let us know so we can assist in getting a bill passed or killed.

If you want to look at all the bills filed this session click on link Indiana Bill Watch 2020 The bills that show up in blue are live and those in Grey are dead.
